Silhouette sculpture

There has long been an interest in enhancing the curves of the silhouette. We can see this with the use of corsets and, more recently, girdles. This is why, when French plastic surgeon Illouz developed liposuction at the end of the 20th century, it was a boom that has continued ever since. Liposuction has been the most requested surgery every year for years.

We all have a certain amount of fat under our skin. The distribution of this fat in our bodies is determined by several factors, such as genetics, diet, exercise, medication use, lifestyle, and more. Not all fat is the same, and we can see this when we lose weight, as fat disappears from certain areas first, or when we gain weight, as it appears first in certain areas. This is why, despite eating healthy and exercising, we sometimes fail to achieve our desired figure goals.

Humans have a limited number of fat cells. When we gain weight, we don't increase the number of fat cells, but rather the size of the fat cells we have. Imagine a bunch of grapes. We have a defined number of grapes, and when we gain weight, the number of grapes doesn't change; they fill with juice and increase in size. However, when we lose weight, the number of grapes remains the same, but as they lose their juice, they become raisins.

During liposuction, these fat deposits are permanently removed. Of course, you can regain weight, but it won't be the same amount, as only the remaining fat deposits will increase in size. As a result, if you gain weight after liposuction, the outcome will be what is sometimes called "curvy." Obviously, this is not what is desired, sought after, or what usually happens. In most cases, when a person notices this positive change in their figure, they become motivated and change their lifestyle, resulting in an improvement in the overall outcome.

With liposuction, we sculpt the fat in your body to enhance your silhouette. We highlight curves, such as the S-shaped curve that runs down your back, with a concave lower back followed by the desired convexity of the buttocks. Or that other pleasing S-shaped curve with a concave waist and a convex hip.

In conclusion, liposuction is a “win-win” situation, like all other plastic surgery treatments, in which people live better lives.

The procedure is an outpatient procedure, meaning you return home the same day. It takes approximately 4 to 6 hours, depending on the desired results. It is performed under deep sedation monitored by an anesthesiologist. The scars are small and imperceptible. Of all plastic surgery procedures, this is the most painful. Recovery is slow, with daily life resuming after 10 days and physical activity after 2 to 3 weeks.

Minor risks are low (less than 5%) and generally include asymmetries and skin marks such as folds or blemishes. More serious problems, occurring in less than 1/5235 cases, are skin loss or organ perforation such as the kidneys, intestines, or bladder. This safety profile is in the hands of plastic surgeons. However, as we have seen before, due to the high demand for liposuction, many doctors are attracted to it and unfortunately lack the necessary expertise (medical malpractice).

Due to this high demand, the medical industry has developed in recent years equipment promoted as "size reduction" devices attempting to simulate the benefits of liposuction. The results obtained are a fraction of those achieved with liposuction. Liposuction typically removes up to 5 liters of fat, while the devices achieve a reduction of less than 1 cm. Liposuction removes fat from the body, while the devices kill fat cells with either cold or heat (radiofrequency, laser, ultrasound, or plasma). Liposuction is a single session lasting a few hours, while the devices consist of several sessions lasting approximately 30 minutes to an hour over several months (approximately 1 months). The devices are a viable option for those seeking small changes without downtime and at a lower investment.

The price range starts at $4990 USD (this includes pre- and post-procedure consultations, operating room use and consumables during the procedure, surgical and anesthetic team fees, and medications during recovery) and will be determined by the treatment plan suggested by your plastic, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgeon. As we know, not all dresses fit all bodies. At Kintsugi, we don't aim for generic results: we think like artists, plan like architects, and execute like engineers. Just like with a dress, the result of your treatment is what people will see when they meet you. It's an investment in yourself.

At Kintsugi we will take care of you and accompany you throughout your aesthetic experience.
