Neck Rejuvenation

This is a fascinating and very topical subject after what we experienced during the lockdown and the rise of digital video communication through platforms like Zoom and others.

The neck has long been an object of admiration, as exemplified by the iconic sculpture of Nefertiti, the Egyptian queen. The neck is an elegant and socially significant feature that has been adorned with jewelry since the beginning of time. A beautiful neck signifies youth, status, elegance, and good health. This is why neck enhancement is a highly sought-after procedure among celebrities, models, and businesspeople.

During the COVID pandemic, communication largely shifted to interaction with others through a screen. This led more people to notice the importance of the neck in their appearance, primarily for two reasons. First, the cameras used for digital video communication typically have a field of view restricted to the face and neck, so there are fewer human features to distract us. Second, we were looking at ourselves for much longer than usual. In our daily lives, we don't usually look at ourselves as much as we look at others. We mainly look at ourselves in the morning or evening when we're getting ready for the day ahead or for bed. This increased exposure to the aesthetics of our necks during lockdown made us more aware of them.

That's why we've seen a surge in neck sculpting and rejuvenation procedures ever since . I say sculpting and rejuvenation because it's a procedure performed on people from 17 to 80 years old. In youth, the goal is to sculpt the neck of those whose neck doesn't define the face from the chest, making it seem as if they don't have a neck at all. This detracts from their presence, elegance, and youthful appearance. As the years go by, the procedure is performed to rejuvenate the neck, which generally accumulates skin laxity. This results in a loss of jawline definition or a neck that resembles a turkey's.

The procedures are varied and must be personalized according to each person's characteristics. This is why we sometimes see less-than-ideal results, as it is a true art and must be tailored to each individual. These procedures can range from minor interventions, such as minimally invasive techniques to tighten the skin and reduce subcutaneous tissue, to surgical procedures to sculpt the neck. The beautiful patient whose photos we can see below only needed a minimally invasive procedure to achieve the separation of her face and chest, resulting in a more defined jawline.

This beautiful patient, a businesswoman, mother, and philanthropist, confided in us about the dissonance between her vibrant energy and the tired appearance she projected due to the visible signs of aging. To turn back the clock, we performed a surgical procedure known as a deep plane neck lift.

Neck sculpting or rejuvenation carries few risks when performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon. Among the most feared is injury to a facial nerve that innervates the lips, which can cause temporary difficulty in lip movement. This risk is less than 1%, and if it occurs, it tends to resolve within 3 to 4 months. Another less severe but slightly more common risk is bleeding after surgery, which will initially interfere with proper healing. Neck surgery, or deep plane necklift (its technical name), is a procedure generally performed under deep sedation administered by an anesthesiologist and lasts approximately 2 to 4 hours. The procedure is outpatient, meaning you return home the same day. You can return to your daily activities in two to three weeks, and the scars are virtually invisible.

The price range starts at $2850 USD (this includes pre- and post-procedure consultations, operating room use and consumables during the procedure, surgical and anesthetic team fees, and medications during recovery) and will be determined by the treatment plan suggested by your plastic, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgeon. As we know, not all dresses fit all bodies. At Kintsugi, we don't aim for generic results: we think like artists, plan like architects, and execute like engineers. Just like with a dress, the result of your treatment is what people will see when they meet you. It's an investment in yourself.

Feel good about looking better!
