Breast implant removal
Breast augmentation or cleavage design is one of the most frequently performed procedures.
Time passes without waiting for anyone, and with the passage of time, trends and life situations change.
Perhaps in our youth we loved wearing stilettos, and perhaps now we prefer low heels. The same goes for breast design. Perhaps in our youth we wanted breasts that couldn't be overlooked, and now we prefer beautiful, discreet breasts. Or perhaps we simply feel we no longer need implants because we've enjoyed them for years, but instead of replacing them with new ones, we prefer a breast reshaping without the use of new implants.
Perhaps we've experienced fatigue, weakness, headaches, or simply haven't felt 100%, and despite investigating various possible causes, we haven't found the culprit and our condition hasn't improved. No one is born with silicone implants, and it's possible to be intolerant or develop an allergy to them. In some people, these symptoms improve or disappear after implant removal. This condition, which isn't fully understood, is called Breast Implant Illness (BII).
We often wonder what happens when implants are removed . Very often, the breasts will need to be reshaped. It's similar to a dress that used to fit well, but we've lost weight. The dress probably won't fit the same way, feeling a bit loose, and it will need to be altered to fit properly again. There are two possibilities depending on the individual case and each patient's wishes: the first is to remove the implant and then, after 4 to 6 months, have the breasts reshaped. The advantages of this procedure are that it is safer and allows for a more precise result. The other possibility is to remove the implant and reshape the breasts during the same procedure. Since this is a more complex procedure, it carries a slightly higher risk and a longer recovery time, and the same level of precision in the reshaping may not be achieved.
The return to daily activities is quick, in about 1 to 2 weeks. The pain is not severe and usually resolves during the first postoperative week. It is performed under deep sedation administered by an anesthesiologist, and the procedure's duration can vary from 45 minutes if only the implant is removed to 3-5 hours if a simultaneous breast lift is performed. Risks are uncommon and vary depending on whether or not a breast lift is performed. The risks of a breast lift include irregularities in breast contour, a visible scar, the presence of seromas (a pocket of inflammatory fluid trapped within the body that must be drained to prevent contour irregularities), changes in sensation, and loss of breastfeeding function. The most feared but rare risk is partial or total loss of the areola and nipple.
Starting the second week, physical activity is resumed with certain restrictions that are lifted one month after surgery.
